The Episcopal Diocese of Nebraska (DioNeb) and Balancing the Scales hosts a biennial advocacy day focused on criminal justice reform. Our advocacy days include worship, table fellowship, presentations from key legislative leaders involved in criminal justice reform and one-on-one meetings with state senators in the rotunda of our state capitol.
We also offer Zoom-based training for all participants ahead of our advocacy day to ensure participants are confidently prepared as they advocate for criminal justice reform in the Nebraska Legislature.
In 2023, we successfully advocated for a restoration of voting rights for returning citizens, removing an arbitrary two-year waiting period and extending voting rights to thousands of Nebraskans.
In 2025, we advocated for an end to Nebraska’s lifetime ban for food assistance (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program or SNAP) for Nebraskans with drug convictions.
Our third biennial Justice and Only Justice DioNeb Advocacy Day will be in April 2027.
